Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why do you encourage new students to take a practice SAT test before they start tuition?
A: This is only encouraged if the student hasn't already taken the SAT. It is useful so that we can establish the skill and knowledge level at which the student is starting. This isn't essential but is extremely helpful for tutors in preparing lessons and identifying areas of strength and need.
Q: How much does it cost for two students to have a joint lesson with one tutor?
A: £110 - £190 per person per hour, which is the same as one-to-one lessons. As soon as 10 hours or more are booked the fee range drops to £95 - £175 per person per hour. See tuition fees for further details on hourly rates or contact us.
Tuition fees are the same for lessons in pairs as they are for a one-to-one lesson because:
- There is very little change in attention given to each student. This only changes significantly with 3 or more students.
- There are benefits of learning alongside another student. For example, it introduces a competitive element that can be motivational, and the other student's questions and mistakes can aid learning.
Q: What happens if the student and tutor don't 'click'?
A: We are aware sometimes personalities just don't work together so in this instance we are more than happy to organise lessons with another of our tutors.
Q: How many SAT Subject Tests do I need to take?
A: You would need to look up these details with the university to which you are applying but normally one or two subjects are required. You can also read our SAT Subject Test section for more information.
Q: Does it matter which Subject Tests I sit?
A: Some universities will specify, but where possible it is sensible to take Subject Tests in the subjects you hope to major in at university. It is advisable to look up the exact details for each university you intend to apply to.
Q: If you are studying the American curriculum but want to go to British University do you need to sit SATs?
A: This varies from student to student (according to their ability, motivation, time available to do homework between lessons and the school curriculum they are currently being taught). Our experience shows us that most students need at least 10 hours of tuition (5 lessons). Following an initial lesson, our tutors are able to give an indication of how many tuition hours might be useful for any given student.
A: Both tests are widely accepted. If the university you are applying to accepts both the ACT and SAT then it becomes a matter of personal choice. If you would like to discuss this choice with one of our tutors please contact us.
Q: I've got my SAT test in a month. Is it too late to get some tuition?
Q: Can or should I re-sit the SAT/Subject Tests/ACT?
Q: Will I have the same tutor throughout my preparation with S.T.Logic?
A: Yes, you will have the same tutor throughout for each part of the test / exam you are preparing for with us. Depending on the subjects chosen for the Subject Tests and the GCSEs or A levels you're studying for, you may require a different tutor for different subjects. However, each tutor will continue to tutor you until you have completed that test or exam.
Q: Where do lessons take place?
A: Individual lessons take place at our teaching centre in South Kensington, at your home, workplace or school. Group classes and courses also take place at our South Kensington teaching centre. If none of these options are suitable for your specific request, we will try our best to work out an alternative solution.
Q: Will you tutor me if I need tuition at a location outside of London?
A: Yes this is very possible, but travel time and expenses will apply. Get in touch and we can discuss your needs.
Q: Are refunds available for lessons not completed?
A: As long as lessons are cancelled with more than 24 hours' notice, the lessons can either be rescheduled or payment covering these will be refunded. See our Terms and Conditions for full information on refunds and cancellation.
Q: When do I pay for lessons?
A: Payment for lessons is taken prior to lessons commencing. If for any reason this is not possible, we can discuss receiving a deposit of half of the cost prior to lessons beginning and the balance on the day of the first lesson. See our Terms and Conditions for full information on payment.
Q: Where should payment be sent?
A: Cheques should be made payable to 'S.T.Logic' and posted to S.T.Logic, 3rd Floor, 2 Cromwell Place, London SW7 2JE. If you would rather transfer money, please contact us for bank details. See our Terms and Conditions for full information on payment.
Q: What does S.T. stand for?
A: Standardised Testing!
