ISEE: Independent School Entrance Exam
What is it?
The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is a three-hour admission test for entrance into grades 5 12 at most private schools.
The ISEE has three levels:
- Lower level: For students in 4th & 5th grade who are candidates for admission to 6th & 7th grade.
- Middle level: For students in 6th & 7th grade who are candidates for admission to 7th & 8th grade.
- Upper level: For students in 8th to 11th grade who are candidates for admission to 9th to 12th grade.
This test is made up of five sections:
- Verbal reasoning
- Quantitative reasoning
- Reading comprehension
- Personal essay
The first four sections are included in your overall score. The personal essay is given to your school along with your test scores. This test has no 'pass' scores but each school will have its own accepted score levels.
When can I take it?
The ISEE may only be taken once in any six month period and may only be taken when making a formal application to a school. Practice administrations are not allowed.
